How to Make a Class Announcement

Why are class announcements so important?

  • They allow you to reach a large, captive group of people. In a classroom setting, students are more likely to be receptive to a message about textbooks.
  • Class announcements also send a very high impact message. The announcements encourage people check out the website and buy books.

How to Create a Class Announcement Schedule

  • Begin by examining your Price Comparison Flyer research.
  • Make sure we have the books for a class in stock before the announcement is made!
  • Schedule announcements in these classes:
    1. Large classes
  • These are typically lower-level courses like Economics 100, Biology 150, English 120, etc.
  • They are usually held in big lecture halls
  • Large stacks of books are another solid indicator
    1. Classes where we have a large price differential
  • Many of these should already be on your Price Comparison Flyer
  • Any class with over twenty or thirty students and a good price differential is a good candidate for an announcement.

How to Make a Class Announcement

  • Arrive to the class at least 15 minutes early.
  • Stand outside the class and pass out Price Comparison Flyers as students enter the room. (If students have already entered, then pass the flyers out in the classroom).
  • Several minutes before the class is set to begin, ask the professor if you can make an announcement to his or her students.
    1. Identify yourself as a representative of
    2. Let the professor know that his/her students can save $X.XX on their books.
    3. Ask the professor if you can make a brief 30-second announcement before class begins to let students know exactly how much they can save.
  • Make the announcement. Keep it brief and professional.
  • If the professor is unwilling to let you make an announcement, say thank you and move on to your next task. Always maintain a professional and respectful demeanor.
